This is Speed River and its valley lands near our Historic Bailey Bridge. Our Bailey Bridge is one of the few remaining bailey bridges from World War 2 in southern Ontario.

The Bridge and its unusual carved stone abutments meet the requirements for designation and protection under the Ontario Heritage Act. This did not matter to some members of Guelph City Council and Mayor Guthrie who voted to demolish it and replace it with a 2 lane bridge which will only bring more traffic thru the the Speed River wildlife corridor we want to protect.
